I’m going to be totally honest; this post is a bit difficult to write, almost to the point of hurting. BUT here we go anyway . . .
I was a bit shocked to find out who the candidates were running for City Council. While some, like current Councilmen Josh Palmer and Brian Bauman were not surprises, I was taken aback by Carol Smith, running against Patty Klein in Ward 3, and Nichole Coleman running against the only Council person to stand for We The People, Holly Frische. Not that I’m opposed to them running, but Nichole Coleman and Carol Smith are friends of mine from New Life Assembly of God. Nichole, Carol, Mayor Christina Muryn and I have all attended New Life Assembly of God for maybe 20 years together. We are all friends. Well, actually, I don’t know that the mayor would call me her friend these days, lol. Nichole, Carol & I have all watched each other’s children grown up and have loved and supported each other through the years. That’s why it pains me just a bit to think that Mayor Muryn perhaps recruited political candidates from the church.
I’m not quite sure what motivated Carol Smith to run for City Council, but I’ve never seen her at a City Council meeting. I’ll just say that it very much looks like she’s a “Mayors Candidate”.
Nichole Colemans run for City Council is the most troubling for me. Nichole has been the Director of Veterans Affairs since 2011, beautiful! I’m so thankful that she has served our country and continues to serve those that stood on the front lines in a different capacity. I admire her, and I’m sure this is a fact that she knows. Would working for the Federal government and running for City Council violate the Hatch Act? I don’t know, but the question has been asked. If I’m not mistaken, this happened last time she ran for office. I was told by several individuals that in order to run for City Council that Nichole had her title changed at the Veterans Affairs office. I don’t know how much truth there is to that, but wouldn’t that be highly unethical? I may just have to pick up the phone and give her call to ask that question. It’s my understanding that Councilman Dan DeArment, or Slayer Dan as I refer to him for his role in silencing the voices of the people because they felt disrespected while conducting the city’s business, circulated a petition for her. Councilman Jeff Wobser also circulated a petition for Nichole. Both Slayer Dan & Jeff Wobser are RUBBERSTAMPs for the Mayors agenda. I would hope that Nichole is not, but trust that she would represent her constituents. Here’s what disturbs me the most . . . Nichole Coleman sits on the Board of New Life Assembly of God. The very board that had me removed from my position, fired and practically exiled from church, after 23 years, for continuing to write about the City of Findlay’s business. I didn’t lose my job for not DOING my job, I lost my job for opposing Christina Muryn – and here we are four months later with candidates who seem to have been recruited by the mayor herself, directly from New Life. I’m troubled by this. Will they be shunned from New Life for contributing to City Council or will they be embraced for not opposing Mayor Muryn?
