In this “Findlay Exposed: Episode 3” video, you can see that Strand Associates was paid $100,775 for their initial park plan that could be found in a document called Catalytic Plan 2017. Unfortunately, I searched for that link in order to attach to this blog post and it was no longer available. Then in December 2023 the city approved another $1.5 MILLION to Strand Associates for an updated plan of the Downtown legacy park Mayor Muryn continues to push. A park that will be built on contaminated soil they claim to have cleaned up that is also in the flood zone. How does that make any sense?
If parks in our county have to be put on a levy for funding, why is this $40 MILLION park with an $8 MILLION bridge, not being put on the ballot for taxpayers of Findlay to vote on. How does that make any sense?
If the City of Findlay cannot take care of the parks and properties it currently owns, how can we expect them to keep up on this legacy park? Take a look at the condition it is currently in . . . very poor condition. An issue that has been brought up at City Council quite some time ago, to which the mayor replied “well, we don’t want to put lipstick on a pig”. Do we honestly think spending $40 MILLION is the right solution for a simple downtown park? How does that make any sense?
Mayor Christina Muryns Downtown Legacy Park discussion has become a thorn in the flesh of our community. Her brazen refusal to pause the park plans after the community has said they do not want their tax dollars spent this way is one reason for her to be recalled. She refuses to heed the voices of the people she vowed to serve. How disgraceful.
