On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, The Courier published a letter from Bruce Haynes in their Letters to the Editor section. “Change needed in Council meetings” is how it was titled. Bruce said he was shocked by the way a taxpayer was treated at February 20th’s meeting as she had the right to her speaking time without being interrupted. He also asked why City Council was ‘Rubberstamping’ everything the mayor brings forward. “Where is the taxpayer representation when they do that?” He asks. “Shame on the Mayor and City Council. You are not looking out for the taxpayers. You dishonor your office. You owe the taxpayers an apology and you need to immediately rescind the mayors authority to spend anymore monies on a new downtown park” he adds.
Fast-forward to a year later and the mayor and City Council continue frivolously spending our tax dollars and whatever they damn well please regardless of what the voices in our community say. The continue to dishonor their office. This is one of the reasons I am running for City Council Ward 6. If you want your concerns to be heard, you can no longer count on these rubber stamps. And “RUBBERSTAMPS” are exactly what they are.
Last year on February 20th, it was I who spoke at City Council. I had written a statement listing all of our Republican values and how Mayor Christina Muryn did not follow any of the values of our party. Then, I asked for her resignation. It was at this time that President John Harrington gaveled me down for “salacious speech”. Shortly after this meeting, City Council put together an Ad Hoc committee chaired by Councilman Josh Palmer but almost solely ran by newest Council member Dan DeArment. In short, they moved the oral communications part of Council meetings to the end because they couldn’t conduct business after being “disrespected”. Then they moved to not have any written communications read out loud at any Council meeting. What great representation of their constituents, huh? It is for this reason I call Councilman Dan DeArment “Slayer Dan”
Today, I’m back in the race. Not one for mayor of the City of Findlay, but one for City Council. I’m running to restore your voice back to our community. I’m running so that YOUR priorities are the City business being attended to. I’m running because what matters to you, matters to me!
Findlay, if you want to see a change at City Council, be sure to support those that attend City Council meetings, speak at City Council meetings and that are NOT Mayor Christina Muryn’s next “Rubberstamp”.
